Using a Handheld Bluetooth Scanner with the Sortly Desktop App

Sortly Ultra and Enterprise plan users can take advantage of connecting Handheld/Bluetooth scanners for use with the Sortly desktop app.

Setup and Troubleshooting

1. Please ensure your scanner is properly connected and working accurately with your device prior to scanning - Please follow instructions provided by your scanner manufacturer to connect the scanner to your device. 
2. Enabling Bluetooth scanning on the Sortly app does not assist/enable in connecting your scanner to your device. It will only allow you to perform searches/actions once the scanner is connected.
3. If you are scanning QR codes, please ensure you are using a 2D scanner. 1D scanners typically only read barcodes.

Searching for Items in the Search Bar or in Advanced Search

1. Follow the instructions provided by your scanner manufacturer to connect the scanner to your device.
2. Once connected, click on the scanner button beside the search field to enable searching via scanner. 
   
   
3. Now, scan the code using your handheld scanner to search for any item in your Sortly inventory.
4. Note: You can search for items using the scanner on the items tab or in the advanced search section only. Scanning will remain enabled as the user jumps between tabs or folders.
5. WARNING- Do not tap on the search box to perform a search by scan. Tapping on the search bar will disable the handheld scanner mode.

Connecting Barcodes or QR codes to New or Existing Items

1. Follow the instructions provided by your scanner manufacturer to connect the scanner to your device.
2. On the edit item (or add item screen), scroll down and click on the “link QR/barcode” button
3. Now, scan the code using your handheld scanner to link the code to the item.
4. Once you've scanned the item with your handheld scanner, you will see the barcode populate on the screen.
5. After you select "Link," the item details will be available on the item page, as seen in the two images below.
