Can I delete or restore items and folders?

Sortly never permanently removes a deleted item or folder. Everything you delete goes to the Trash, where it stays until you restore it. This means you can always recover something deleted by mistake.

How to Delete an Item or Folder

You can delete an item or folder from both the web and mobile apps.

Web

  1. 1Go to the item or folder.

    Click the ... (vertical ellipsis) icon next to the item or folder you want to delete.

  2. 2Select Delete

    Choose Delete from the dropdown menu. The item or folder moves to the Trash.

Mobile

  1. 1Tap the item or folder

  2. Tap the ... (vertical ellipsis) icon next to the item or folder you want to delete.

  3. 2Choose the Delete option

    Tap Delete. The item or folder moves to the Trash.

🗑️ Deleting a folder also moves all items inside it to the Trash. Restore the folder to bring those items back.

How to Restore an Item or Folder (Web Only)

Restoring is currently available on the web app only. Deleted items are listed in reverse chronological order, with the most recently deleted at the top.

  1. 1Go to the Trash

    Navigate to All Items and select Trash, or go directly to app.sortly.com/trash.

  2. 2Restore the item or folder

    Hover over the item or folder you want to restore, then click Restore. It returns to your inventory immediately.

✅ Restored items go back to your main inventory. If the original folder still exists, the item returns to it. If the folder was also deleted, restore the folder first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I permanently delete an item from Sortly?
Items in the Trash cannot be permanently deleted. The Trash acts as a safety net so your data is never lost.
Can I delete or restore items in bulk?
Yes. On the web app, select multiple items and use the bulk action bar to delete them all at once. See the related article below for step-by-step instructions.
Why can't I restore items from the mobile app?
Restoring from the Trash is only available on the Sortly web app at this time. To restore an item, log in at app.sortly.com/trash from a browser.
What happens to the items inside a deleted folder?
All items inside a deleted folder are moved to the Trash along with the folder. Restoring the folder brings all of its contents back.
An item disappeared from my inventory. Where did it go?
Check the Trash first at app.sortly.com/trash. If it's there, another user may have deleted it and you can restore it from the same page. If you don't see it, try adjusting the date range filter in the Trash — the item may have been deleted outside the default range. If it's still not showing, check your folder permissions or try a full sync on the mobile app.
