Sortly gives you several ways to scan inventory, from the camera built into your phone to Bluetooth handheld scanners and rugged enterprise devices. This article explains your options so you can choose the setup that works best for your team.

Mobile app camera (built-in)
This is the easiest option and requires no extra hardware. The Sortly mobile app includes a built-in barcode and QR code scanner that uses your phone's camera.
Open the Sortly app on your iOS or Android device and start scanning right away. This is ideal for fast, everyday inventory tasks.
Bluetooth handheld scanner
You can pair a Bluetooth-enabled handheld scanner with your mobile device to use alongside the Sortly app. Once connected and set up with Quick Actions, this setup can significantly speed up repetitive scanning tasks, especially in high-volume or fast-paced environments.
We recommend using a scanner that is reliable, easy to connect, and supports continuous scanning.
Officially supported scanner
The Sortly team has tested and officially approved the following scanner for compatibility:

Many Sortly users have also had success with other Bluetooth scanners. Commonly used models include:

If your team uses rugged smart scanners in a warehouse or in the field, you can install the Sortly app directly onto any smart device running Android 11 or above.
Download the Sortly app from the Google Play Store, sign in, and start scanning just as you would on a standard mobile device. Devices used successfully by customers include:
Scanning on the Sortly web app
You can use a Bluetooth handheld scanner with the Sortly web app on your desktop or laptop. However, functionality is more limited compared to the mobile app.
