How to Track Individual Items with Unique QR Codes

When to Use This Method

This method is best if you need item-level traceability — meaning each box, roll, or piece has its own unique QR code and can be tracked separately.

Step 1: Create the Base Item

  1. Go to your Sortly inventory.
  2. Create a new item (example: Box of Work Gloves).
  3. Set the Unit of Measure to Box, Roll, or whatever matches your item.

 

Step 2: Clone the Item for Each Individual Piece

  1. Select the base item.
  2. Click Clone.
  3. Toggle “Generate unique SID for each clone.”

    • This gives each clone its own unique identifier in Sortly.


     

  4. Repeat for however many items you received.

Because the clone(s) will have different SIDs, the QR code(s) will also be unique:
